Bumping into Luke

Day 692.

Sometimes, I bump into Luke. I trip over him quite unexpectedly.

I tell a story or recount an incident not related to Luke, as I have often these past weeks with my friend visiting. The tale unfolds and flows forward, and suddenly - ooh!... there’s Luke! He was involved somehow and I had forgotten.

The feeling, is as if I have bumped into him unexpectedly in the street, or in a restaurant, or he came home unannounced. And the pleasure is just the same. “Oh there you are!” My heart and soul feels.

Just when I think I have run out of memories, another appears. How many more forgotten memories do I have?

As I function more and speak of other elements of my life, these unexpected appearances are more common. You’d think that to lock oneself down and to only think of him, would bring the memory back. But for me it is in the speaking of other stories, being part of the flow of life, that unlocks these delightful surprises, that are as if he has appeared in the flesh, to my heart.

It’s the same with photos that appear unexpectedly in the bottom of a drawer when searching for something else - “Oh there you are darling!”

Tripping over Luke, in my memories, is the greatest pleasure.
