Return to Mammoth

Day 1217.

I’m in Mammoth.

I wasn’t going to come. I’ve not been here since Luke died.

Again, I decided to step forward onto the inevitable land mines that awaited me. There’s a lot of memories here. It’s the place where Luke was prescribed the Percocet that broke his sobriety and switched what he called his ‘heat seekers’ back on.

There’s dark stuff here for me!

I sit at dinner, a table full of George’s wonderful sporting snow-life friends, there is so much love, so much laughter amongst this extraordinary collection of international athletes. They are a delight. George is safe with these wonderful young men.

Luke never had this.

Luke was never safe.
