Responding to Overdose

  1. Recognize signs and symptoms (pupils, gurgling)

  2. State “I am going to give you Naloxone”

  3. Call 911 and yell for help

  4. Check responsiveness, pulse & breathing, clear airways.

  5. Administer Naloxone - see video below. If you have no Naloxone - start chest compressions til help arrives.

  6. Start Chest Compressions - see video below.

  7. Repeat if unresponsive, every 2 -3 mins. Administer another pack of Naloxone in alternate nostril.

  8. Put in recovery position if unresponsive, if you have no more Naloxone, or if you have to leave link. See video below.

Naloxone lasts 30-90 minutes so it is important to call for assistance. After Narcan wears off, the overdose can return
